The night came and she quietly unfolded,
stiffened and tight,
cracking the bones:
shoulders, then neck,
fingers, then knees,
shoulders again,
then finally ankles.
It was the ankles that carried it all
the payal she wore
for decades as a wedding gift,
tinkling ghungroos
announcing her quiet entrance.
She rose,
and once again stood tall
shrunk with age, but tall,
clear and determined.
The decision was made,
by her or by destiny.
Who was to tell what was written in the stars.
