“Rose or Tulip?”

My girls play this game that they call Rose or a Tulip. They get to decide if their day is either a rose one with a flower, a bud, or a thorn. Or was it a tulip with only a bud and a flower? Here comes the most beautiful part of the game. Flower denotes the highlight of the day; bud is something they look forward to, and thorn, of course, as the word suggests something sad that happened during the day. I love playing this game with them. I play because it encourages us to talk and be honest. But my true hope is that one day, my girls will collect a bigger bunch of tulips than roses because they will learn to brush some sad moments off and look beyond them.
