Reminding myself
I can always go back
The path is lit
The cracks and bumps I have driven over for decades
The curves I can steer
Blind Hill and
Turtle Crossing
Limited to 25mph
It is all there
Known and tried
Yet my eyes search for a slip road I can take
Dark and unknown
A bump waiting for me
The car moves on slow but steady
STOP
A decision to be made
Straight or right
I turn towards one I decide.
“Have a nice day!”
Is all I hear when an old man walks by
Moon lit and windy
The road is uneven
I smile at the turn
For I know this one
Slowing down only to thank
Myself
For never turning around.
