I grew up with two great chefs in the house. Their secret to the delicious food was always love. Where dad cooked meals to destress. Ma cooked because she had no choice. But those meals are part of my favorite childhood memories. She picked ideas from cooking shows to add a twist to the regular boring meals. Those recipes became part of my recipe book. Meals cooked but with a twist by Ma. So now, when my girls talk about the same dishes I grew up eating, I feel I must be doing something right.
Tonight’s blog prompt started with an alarm clock to annoying daughters and finally landed on our favorite foods. The last one is a new memory I made with my girls, so it is a special one with a twist.

Come one come all,

Potatoes are squishy

Kneading the dough

Cilantro for greens

Chilli for a zing

Aamchur is a must

Ghee ka tadka for a twist

Don’t try too hard

It is my childhood happy meal

Aloo ka paratha

With a side of butter and Masala Chai to the mix.

Rice is soaked

With lentils for company

Ghee sizzles with cumin and heeng

Adding anymore would be a crime

Missing any one

Will be remembered

By many for a while

Khichdi is ready

Anytime any day

Anywhere in a bowl

with papad on the side.

I have the tuna,

A spicy crisp

Salmon sliced thin

For a twist

Seaweed for wrapping

Sticky rice in a roll

Sushi for dinner

Dipped in soy

And pickled ginger in a bowl.

1–2 minutes
