Life is in those inconsequential, subtle, mundane moments. That is why I always write about them—identifying a small, insignificant moment and immortalizing it in written words. I do it much more now that my girls are way more opinionated and individualistic.
It is also like a writing exercise I can consistently follow.
These stories weave out of my daily routine while cleaning the kitchen after everyone is tucked in their beds and everything is quiet. All I hear is the ticking of the clock, one second at a time.
Here it is. It happened this week while I was seriously trying to finish an online course with my girls screaming, fighting, or talking in the background, one of those things.
“Why is Bob sitting on my desk?” I almost screamed.
“Bob likes it there. He likes looking at you, Mom.” replied my very expressive, dramatic little one.
“Really? Please pick it up from there.” It is hard to be stern when they talk like grown adults.
“Sorry, Mom, I cannot. He has a crush on you and doesn’t like to sit anywhere else.” Her nonchalant demeanor as she took a bite of the sourdough bread only made me chuckle.
A stuffed Viking I got for my girls from a trip now sits on my desk with Doc, the turtle, and Ms. Dumpling.
Life is truly in moments that catch you unaware and make you smile all day.
Well, why not?
Bob, the Viking, has a crush on me.
Walking fast and then carefully
Windows need to be shut properly
Floor swept for the not-so-tiny feet
Leaving melting snow blobs where I moped yesterday.
A sigh of relief watching them eat
Laundry is either dirty or unfolded!
I cannot remember
A scream from beyond the walls
That calms my racing heartbeat.
All is well, I remind myself
Bob has a crush on me
I remember.
Smiling at the bearded Viking
Wondering
Why did we name him Bob?
