Healing happens in layers
Peeling gently at the scars
Pulling at the skin the muscles the tissues
Reminding me there is more
than I can feel.
Healing happens in layers
A bloody practice
Skinning the disguise away
Exposing the wounds
Gnawing at the scars you thought were history
Bandaged with present and hopes of tomorrow
Scraping the edges toughened with time
Healing happens in layers
Accepting ‘closure’ is not the aim.
Today I healed a little more.
Hoping you survive this too
Hating the trauma that wrecked us both
With relentless love that no one hoped.
